Stingray Tennis Update: Week of May 2nd

Hello Parents,

We are heading into our final week of the season. On Monday, we have a re-match against the split squad of Imagine School and the Indian River County Home Schoolers. The match will be played at Timber Ridge. Please have your child there by 3:45.

There is no practice on Tuesday.

Wednesday, we have another re-match, this one against Oslo Middle School. The match will be played at Hidden Palms. Please have your child there by 3:45.

On Saturday we have our end-of-season tournament at The Boulevard Tennis Club. Players need to report no later than 12:40. Matches will start at 1 p.m. and the final matches will be completed by 4 p.m. though some matches will finish before then. In the event of rain, the make-up date for the tournament will be the following Saturday, May 14th.

I'd like to see everyone on our team play in the tournament. Please notify me no later than Tuesday if your child will not be able to play in the tournament. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

One more matter, we will be taking a team photo on Wednesday, so be sure your child is wearing the team shirt on that day. No exceptions.

As always, thank you for your support of the tennis program at Storm Grove Middle.

Stingray Tennis Update: Week of April 25th

Greetings Parents:

The Storm Grove Tennis Team had two matches last week and won them both. Yay for us! But there is a saying that winning isn't everything. I have to agree with that saying. Nobody wins all the time. What is important is that we do our best. In this regard, we will always be a winner, in tennis and in life in general.

That being said, we have two more weeks left in this tennis season. This week we have two more matches. The first match is Monday. We play against a split squad comprising of Imagine Charter School and the Indian River County "Home Schoolers". The match will be played at Timber Ridge. Please have your children report to the courts at 3:45. We will start and end a little earlier than usual.

Tuesday we have practice after school until 4:45.

Wednesday, we are off. Thursday we have another match at Timber Ridge, this one against another Gifford team (they have 3 teams). Again, please have your child report to the courts at 3:45.

As you are aware, the Mardy Fish Children's Foundation Satellite Tournament is being played this week at the Boulevard Tennis Club. All players are invited to come watch these professional tennis players in action. There is no charge for admission for Middle School Tennis players. If your child aspires to take their game to a higher level, this is a great opportunity to watch, in person, what higher-level tennis looks like.

As always, thank you for your support of the Storm Grove tennis team.

Stingray Tennis Update: Week of April 18th

The Storm Grove Tennis Team had two matches this past week, wining the first but losing the second. This week we have two more matches. The first match is on Monday, April 18th. We play Sebastian River Middle School in a rematch of our first match of the season. The match will once again be played at the Sebastian River High School tennis courts. Please have your kids there no later than 3:45, if possible.

Tuesday, we have practice after school until 4:45.

Wednesday, April 20th, we are scheduled to play at the Vero Beach Tennis Club in Timber Ridge against the Masters Academy Tennis Team. It is my understanding that some of my players have a conflict that day and will not be able to play. We are not able to reschedule the match, unfortunately, so just let me know if you won't be able to play on Wednesday and I'll plan accordingly.

That's it for this week. Matches and/or Practice on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Off on Thursday and Friday.

As always, thank you for your support of the tennis team at Storm Grove Middle.

Stingray Tennis Update: Week of April 11th

Salutations,

Monday afternoon we have a match against Oslo Middle School at Hidden Palms Tennis Club at 4 p.m. I spoke with their coach yesterday and he told me that they only have 7 kids on their team. Since we have 15 kids on our team, if someone has a conflict tomorrow and needs to miss tennis, just let me know. As it is, I will have the players on our team who aren't playing against Oslo's team play against each other in practice matches. If anyone wants to leave after their first match (first one to win 6 games), that will be fine. We will finish a little early tomorrow, probably 5:30, no later than 5:45.

To get to Hidden Palms from SR 60, head south on 43rd Avenue, past 4th St where there will be a traffic light, continue south until you get to 5th St. SW. Turn left, make your first right, then a quick right, and follow that road to the end. You will find yourself at Hidden Palms.

For the rest of the week, we have practice after school on Tuesday, nothing on Wednesday, and a match on Thursday against another Gifford team, at Timber Ridge.

Thank you for your support of the tennis team at Storm Grove Middle.

Tennis Update: April 6, 2016

Greetings Once Again,

Well, we finished our first week of competition with another victory, this one against Gifford's "Orange" Team. The official score was 4-3 but we played several practice matches, too. Everyone on the team got to play and our younger players are getting some valuable experience. I am quite proud of this group of kids and I'm sure you're proud of them, too!

There is NO PRACTICE tomorrow, in case you weren't sure. The kids are done until next Monday. Hopefully they can practice on their own over the next few days.

Next Monday, we have a match against Oslo Middle School. The match will be played at Hidden Palms Tennis Club and the kids should report there by 3:45. I will send a reminder and directions to the club sometime over the weekend.

As always, thank you for your support of the tennis team at Storm Grove Middle.

Week of April 4th, 2016

Greetings to All,

Our Stingrays had a great week of practice last week. This week we have a match on Monday (tomorrow), practice on Tuesday, and another match on Wednesday.

Monday's match is against Sebastian River Middle School, beginning at 4 p.m. Players need to be there as close to 3:45 as possible, in order to warm up. The match will be held at the Sebastian River High School's tennis courts. You should park in the East Parking Lot between the High School and the Performing Arts Center. The courts are behind the high school, so park in back. Make sure your child brings something to drink, either water or a sports drink such as Gatorade. It would also be a good idea to have an apple or a banana to eat between matches.

Tuesday is a practice day, after school at Storm Grove, until 4:45.

Wednesday we have another match, this one against Gifford Middle School. The match will be held at the Vero Beach Tennis Club in Timber Ridge. To get there, heading south on US1, turn right on Oslo Road (there is a light at that intersection with a Publix on the left and a Walgreen's on the right. Cross Old Dixie and the railroad tracks and head west less than a half mile. Turn right into Timber Ridge. There is a church at the entrance. Continue along that drive about 1/4 of a mile and the tennis club will be on your right with ample places to park. Make sure your child has lots to drink and a snack.

Players may wear their team shirts to school on days that we have matches, or they can keep them clean and not wear them. Your choice.

As always, thank you for your support of the tennis team at Storm Grove Middle. See you tomorrow in Sebastian!
