End of the Season Post: May 7, 2017

Dear Parents,

The Storm Grove Tennis Team concluded their season at the Indian River County Middle School Tennis Tournament held at The Boulevard Tennis Club on May 7th. They saved their best for last. Everyone played well. In my opinion, it was the best that the team as a group had played the whole season.

The Stingrays were led by Hannah Widman, who came in second place in the Girl's Division II.

Though Hannah was the only finalist, the rest of the Stingray tennis team deserves praise for the great effort that they displayed throughout the tournament and throughout the season. These players include Kathan Patel, Nicholas O'Neill, Krish Patel, Sarah Wolf, Hayden Gibbons, Cheyenne Kinchen, Gracie Strater, Peik Sander, Taylor Swanson, Isa Flores, Laura Cummins, and Pjark Sander.

Congratulations Stingrays, on your successful season. We are all very proud of you.

Sincerely,

Coach Daugherty

PS We never did a team picture! But here are some pictures from the tournament on Saturday. Sorry I didn't get everybody.

Tennis Update: Week of May 1, 2017

Hello Parents,

This week is the last week for Storm Grove tennis this year. We have a match on Tuesday at Timber Ridge and a match on Wednesday at Grand Harbor. We are off Thursday and Friday.

Saturday is our end-of-year tournament which will be held at the Boulevard from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. Players will be placed into three divisions: advanced, intermediate, and beginners. This way, everyone has a chance to compete against players of their own ability level. It will be a round-robin format, so every player will be playing multiple matches against other players in their own division.

I need to know by Wednesday at the latest if your child is not going to be able to participate in the tournament.

In case of rain on Saturday, the tournament will be played on Sunday.

Please get back with me to let me know if your child will not be able to attend either of the matches scheduled for this week or the tournament on Saturday.

Thank you for your support! Go Stingrays!

Tennis Update: Week of April 24, 2017

Dear Parents,

This week will be a busy week.

Tuesday, we have a match at Hidden Palms Tennis Club. The address is 4291 5th Pl SW Vero Beach, FL 32968. To get there, head south on 43rd Ave, past US1, all the way to 5th St. SW. There is a traffic light at that intersection. Make a left. Take your first right and then a quick right. Follow that road all the way to the end. It will curve to the left and you're there!

There is no practice on Wednesday. We will have a practice on Friday instead, at Grand Harbor.

Thursday, we have a match at Sebastian River High School against Sebastian River Middle School. You should park in the East Parking Lot between the High School and the Performing Arts Center. The courts are behind the high school, so park in back. Make sure your child brings something to drink, either water or a sports drink such as Gatorade.

On Friday, we will have a special practice at Grand Harbor. As I'm sure you are all aware, the MFCF Tennis Championships are this week and Friday is Kids Day! Our team is sponsored by Grand Harbor (and the Mardy Fish Children's Foundation), and we are honored to be invited out to their tournament site to practice. It also gives the kids the opportunity to watch some pretty awesome tennis! Please have the kids report to Grand Harbor as soon as possible after school, 3:30 at the latest.

I can probably take some players with me who need a ride. Let me know, OK? I would really like to see all of our kids make it out there. It should be a good practice and a lot of fun!!! The kids should be done practicing by 5:30.

Many thanks for your support.

Tennis Update: Week of April 17, 2017

Greetings Stingray Tennis Team,

This week we have a match on Tuesday, April 18th. The location of the match has changed! It was originally scheduled for Grand Harbor, but the new location for this match is the Vero Beach Tennis Club, at Timber Ridge.

To get there, heading south on US1, turn right on Oslo Road (there is a light at that intersection with a Publix on the left and a Walgreen's on the right. Cross Old Dixie and the railroad tracks and head west less than a half mile. Turn right into Timber Ridge. There is a church at the entrance. Continue along that drive about 1/4 of a mile and the tennis club will be on your right with ample places to park.

There is no practice on Wednesday. It is a shortened day and I have to attend a professional development class in the afternoon.

We have a match again on Thursday. This one will be at Grand Harbor.

Have a great week. I'll see everyone on Tuesday.

Coach Mike

Tennis Update: Week of April 10, 2017

Dear Parents and Players,

Thank you for your kind words regarding my mother. She has one more test scheduled for this week but it will not interfere with the tennis schedule. Hopefully, she will be fine and back on the tennis courts soon.

This coming week our team has practice on Tuesday and matches on Weds and Thurs. Players should report for the matches no later than 3:45.

The match on Wednesday is at The Boulevard Tennis Club, which is located on the corner of 45th St. and Indian River Boulevard. To get there from Storm Grove, turn right on 58th Ave, turn left on 53rd St, cross US1, and turn right on Indian River Boulevard. Get in the right lane. There will be a traffic light at the intersection of Indian River Boulevard and 45th St. The Boulevard is on the SW corner of the intersection. Turn right into the club entrance then find a place to park.

Thursday's match is at Grand Harbor, where we've played before.

Hopefully the uniforms will be ready on Monday afternoon and if they are, I will pick them up and bring them with me to practice. If not Monday, definitely some time this week.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks for your support.

Tennis Update Week of April 3, 2017

Greetings Stingray Tennis Team,

The match schedule has been updated one more time with two changes in location and one change in date. Please note the changes, which have been highlighted.

Tennis practice today will start at 3:30 due to a teacher training that I must attend. Players should change into their tennis clothes and then wait outside the cafeteria on the covered patio until my training is over, then practice will begin. Wednesday practice will be the usual time.

On Thursday, we have a match at Grand Harbor. Players should report no later than 3:45. To get there from Storm Grove, turn right on 58th Ave, turn left on 53rd St, cross US1, and turn right on Indian River Boulevard. The Grand Harbor entrance will be 1/2 mile down Indian River Boulevard on the left.

The uniforms should be in sometime this week, hopefully before our match on Thursday. The clothes that some of you have asked about are in my possession and I will distribute them at practice today.

Finally, I took some pictures at our last match and they are posted at the bottom of this page. I'll take some more pictures this Thursday. Hopefully, we can take a team photo, as well.

Have a great week. I will see the kids at practice and the parents on Thursday, at Grand Harbor.

First Tennis Match of Season at Grand Harbor on March 30, 2017

Attention Stingray Tennis Team Parents,

Our first match of the season is Thursday, March 30, against Gifford Middle School. The match will be played at the Grand Harbor Country Club, located at 4985 Club Terrace in Vero Beach. To get there from Storm Grove, turn right on 58th Ave, turn left on 53rd St, cross US1, and turn right on Indian River Boulevard. The Grand Harbor entrance will be 1/2 mile down Indian River Boulevard on the left. It is a gated community. At the gate you will need to tell them your child's name and whoever else is in your car. Tell them you are there for the Middle School tennis match. They will have a list of all of the players on the team. They will give you a permit to enter and give you directions to the tennis facility.

Students need to report to the courts at 3:45. There will be a short time to warm up then the matches will begin. Parents are encouraged to stay and watch their kids play.

Uniforms have not arrived yet and Grand Harbor has a dress code that we must follow. Players must wear "half-white" outfits, meaning the shirt or shorts or skirt must be white. Please make sure that your child is dressed in this manner.

Good sportsmanship is required. Win or lose, it does not matter. What matters is that we show good character. We are lucky to have Grand Harbor sponsor us and we want to be welcome back.

There is no practice on Friday. Next week, we have practices on Tuesday and Wednesday and another match on Thursday, also at Grand Harbor. That match will be against the Masters Academy.

Regarding practices, students are expected to attend all practices unless arrangements have been made with Coach Daugherty. Parents must contact Coach Daugherty in advance if their child is going to be absent for practice (or will miss a match).

We had a good first two days of practice. Our team is young and inexperienced, but they are great kids and we are going to have a great year!

See you tomorrow at Grand Harbor!

Coach Mike Daugherty
