Tennis Update: Last Week of the Season

Dear Parents,

I hope everyone had a nice weekend, despite the rain. Three straight days of rain in the afternoon! And not surprisingly, the forecast is for more rain Monday afternoon!

Last Friday’s match at the Vero Beach Tennis Club at Timber Ridge was rained out, as you know. We are not going to be able to reschedule that match. I am sorry.

This Friday we have an away match against Sebastian River Middle School. It will be played at the SR High School courts. You should park in the East Parking Lot between the High School and the Performing Arts Center. The courts are behind the high school, so park in back.

This Saturday, May 11th, is the End-of-Year tournament, at the Vero Beach Tennis Club at Timber Ridge! There will be two divisions of play: Advanced and Beginner/Intermediate. The tournament will be held between 1 pm and 3 pm. From 3 pm until 4 pm, the kids will have a banquet with pizza.

One final note regarding Practices this week! I keep an eye on the weather all day. So does the school district. Your children will be notified in school if practice is cancelled due to threat of rain or thunderstorms in the area. I will do my best to also send an email to parents, but sometimes I wait until the last minute in order to make that decision. Sometimes the school district makes that decision for me. So thank you for your understanding about practice cancellations. I will try to let you know in advance as much as possible. But it will also be announced at school if practice is cancelled.

Thank you for your support!

Tennis Update: April 18, 2019

Hello Parents!

Friday (tomorrow) we have a match against Oslo Middle School and St. Helen’s. The match will be played at the Vero Beach Tennis Club at Timber Ridge. Players should get there between 3:30 and 3:45 to warm up. We will start match play at 4 p.m. and we will be done between 5:30 and 6:00. To get to the VBTC at Timber Ridge (from SGMS), head south on 58th, all the way to Oslo Road (9th St. SW). Turn left on Oslo Road, then head east about 5 miles. Drive past the traffic lights at 43rd, 27th, 20th and then look for the church on the left, about a mile east of 20th. It is called Morning Star Church. There will be a sign saying Timber Ridge. Turn left there and follow the road slowly until you reach the Vero Beach Tennis Club on the right.

I have a request. Is it possible that parents can take turns providing drinks and snacks for kids for the matches? I understand it is short notice and for some it would be a hardship, but I just wanted to put this request out there. Thank you very much for your consideration.

As always, thanks for your support. Hope to see you all on Friday!

Tennis Update: April 11, 2019

Greetings Parents,

We had a good practice yesterday and today's weather forecast looks good so I'm looking forward to another good practice today. Tomorrow (Friday) we have our first match of the year against Gifford Middle School. The match will be played at Grand Harbor Golf and Beach Club.

To get to Grand Harbor from Storm Grove, turn right on 58th Ave, turn left on 53rd St, cross US1, and turn right on Indian River Boulevard. The Grand Harbor entrance will be 1/2 mile down Indian River Boulevard on the left. It is a gated community. At the gate you will need to tell them your child's name and whoever else is in your car. Tell them you are there for the Middle School tennis match. They will have a list of all of the players on the team. They will give you a permit to enter and give you directions to the tennis facility.

The match is scheduled between 4 and 6. Some of the team may finish by 5:30 but not all will be done by that time. If your child cannot play tomorrow because of a conflict, please send me an email to let me know.

Thanks and see you tomorrow at Grand Harbor!

Stingray Tennis Update: April 3, 2019

Hello Parents!

Due to the large turnout, we have split practice days into two different groups. One group practices on Mondays and Wednesday after school until 4:30. The other group practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school until 4:30.

The M/W group only has 9 kids in that group. The T/Th has 15. So it would be great if 2 or 3 more kids could somehow change their practice schedule from T/Th to M/W, but no big deal if schedules won't allow it.

Our first match of the season was scheduled for this Friday, April 5th, but due to a couple rainy days of missed practice, we have rescheduled this match to Friday, April 19th. Same place. Same time.

That's it for now. Thanks for your support and see you soon!

Registration Information and Parent Meeting

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,

Registration forms are now available at the front desk at Storm Grove for all students who wish to participate in the Middle School Tennis Club at Storm Grove Middle School. In order for students to participate, parents/guardians must attend a mandatory meeting for Parents and Guardians scheduled for Tuesday, March 26th, at 5:00 p.m. in the Storm Grove MS Media Center. Other important information will be discussed at the Parent Meeting.

Our tennis team is a no-cut team, which means students won’t get cut, even if they are beginners. Students must attend practice and matches and be committed. In the matches, you will sometimes play students who are on the same level as you, but sometimes you will play someone better than you, or vice versa. Good sportsmanship is expected!

Payment must be made at time of registration. Please return the permission slip and payment as soon as possible. They should be turned in to directly to Ms. Angie Herman, our school’s bookkeeper, or you can bring them with you to the Parent Meeting on March 26th, no later. The cost to participate is $40. Checks should be made out to the Storm Grove Middle School Tennis Club and MUST include name, address, and phone number. Financial aid scholarships are available for those who qualify. To inquire about scholarships, please contact me.

The tennis season lasts for 6 weeks. Practices will be held on Tuesday and Thursday after school, from 3:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Matches against other Middle School teams will be on Fridays. The first practice is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, April 2nd. Our first match is tentatively scheduled for April 5th.

Please do not hesitate to contact me by email at coachdaugherty@att.net if you have any questions or concerns that you need to address before the Parent Meeting. Otherwise, I am looking forward to seeing you again or meeting you for the first time at the Parent Meeting on March 26th!

Respectfully Yours,
Coach Michael Daugherty
