Registration Forms Now Available

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,

Registration is now open for all students who wish to participate in the Middle School Tennis Club at Storm Grove Middle School. In order for students to participate, parents/guardians must attend a mandatory meeting for Parents and Guardians scheduled for Wednesday, March 7th, at 5:00 p.m. in the Storm Grove MS Media Center. Other important information and forms will be distributed at this meeting.

Our tennis team is a no-cut team, which means you won’t get cut, even if you are a beginner. You must attend practice and matches and be committed. In the matches, you will sometimes play students who are on the same level as you, but sometimes you will play someone better than you, or vice versa. Good sportsmanship is expected!

Our team is sponsored by the Mardy Fish Children’s Foundation primarily but also by Net Generation. Students will need to learn and practice Mardy’s 6 Healthy Habits: eat healthy, drink lots of water, get sleep, exercise, brush and floss, and make friends!

Payment must be made at time of registration. The registration form will be available on Monday. The cost is $40. Checks should be made out to the Storm Grove Middle School Tennis Club. Financial aid scholarships are available for those who qualify. To inquire about scholarships, contact me by email at Michael.daugherty@indianriverschools.org or by phone at 772-240-6436.

Due to the fact that my teaching day goes until 3:30 and students are released at 2:46, students must report after school to Mr. Daugherty’s room, 3-213 and Must use this time before practice starts at 3:30 to do their homework first then use educational websites (that must be approved). Academics first, Tennis second.

But this is a tennis team and I will be teaching tennis once practice begins. You will be expected to learn how to hit strokes properly, practice what you’ve learned, and do your best! Old habits are hard to break, but you will be expected to try to break them. This takes time. The tennis season lasts for 6 weeks. The first practice will be the week after Spring Break, tentatively Tuesday, March 28th.

Respectfully Yours,

Coach Daugherty
